Getting to The Headrow
The Headrow runs east–west across the northern part of Leeds city centre, from Westgate by the Town Hall to Vicar Lane, where it becomes Eastgate. Here are the official places to check before you travel.
By train
Leeds station is on New Station Street, south of The Headrow (National Rail: Leeds station). Leeds Museums & Galleries gives the distance from the station to Leeds Art Gallery, at the west end of The Headrow, as 0.4 mile (Leeds Art Gallery visitor information).
By bus
Many bus routes run along or across The Headrow — after the 2019–21 works it has bus gates and priority for buses. For routes, times and stops use Metro, the West Yorkshire Combined Authority’s travel information service (West Yorkshire Combined Authority: transport). Leeds City Bus Station is on York Street, LS2 7HU (Metro: Leeds City Bus Station), a short walk from the Eastgate end.
By car
Leeds City Council lists its city-centre car parks (council car parks). Leeds Museums & Galleries also mentions on-street parking on Cookridge Street and car parks including The Light and the Merrion Centre near the Art Gallery. Through traffic is restricted on parts of The Headrow, so check your route on the council’s city centre road changes page.
Access
- Leeds City Council publishes a city-centre access map with public toilets, baby change and Blue Badge parking, and links to Changing Places toilets (public toilets and Changing Places).
- Leeds Art Gallery lists the nearest accessible parking bays and its step-free entrances on its access page.
- Victoria Gate, at the Eastgate end, describes its Changing Places facility and other access information on its accessibility page.
Checked on 4 October 2026. Arrangements change, so please check the official pages before you set off. We couldn’t confirm a current Shopmobility (mobility scooter hire) service in the city centre.
